Three broad regions dominate: the north and northwest (Galicia, Basque Country, Asturias, Cantabria, Navarre) have an Oceanic climate (Cfb) — mild, wet, with no strong dry season; central Spain (the Meseta plateau, including Madrid) has a more continental-influenced climate with hot dry summers and cold winters; the Mediterranean coasts and south (including the Balearic Islands) have a Mediterranean climate (Csa hot-summer / Csb warm-summer variants) with dry, hot summers and mild, wetter winters. A semi-arid climate (BSk) appears in parts of the southeast (e.g. Almería, Murcia).
