Portugal — Banking: Credit History and Central Register

Portugal's Central Credit Register (Central de Responsabilidades de Crédito - CRC/CCR) is managed by Banco de Portugal. Under Instruction no. 1/2026 (effective February 25, 2026), reporting scope was broadened to require independent credit managers, freedom-of-services entities, and alternative credit investment funds to report comprehensive quarterly/monthly risk data. All active balance positions, loans, or credit lines exceeding €50 must be reported monthly by credit-granting institutions, classified as Regular, Potential Liability, Renegotiated, or In Default. Individuals and corporate entities can extract their official credit liabilities map (Mapa de Responsabilidades de Crédito) free of charge via the Banco de Portugal portal, authenticating with Portal das Finanças credentials or a Citizen Card.
