IATA One ID
Travel with your face, not your documents
IATA One ID lets you move through airports — check-in, security, lounge, boarding — using only your face. No boarding pass. No passport checks at the gate. Just walk through.
How One ID works
Which airlines support IATA One ID?
British Airways, Emirates, Singapore Airlines, Air France, Lufthansa, Japan Airlines, Air New Zealand, Qantas, Virgin Atlantic. The list is growing — IATA adds new partners every quarter. Check your airline's app for a "Digital Identity" or "One ID" option.
Is One ID the same as EES?
No. One ID is an airline/airport initiative for a smoother passenger experience — it is opt-in and controlled by you. EES is an EU government border control system that is mandatory for all non-EU nationals. They are separate systems, though both use biometric data. You can use One ID without EES affecting you, and EES applies regardless of whether you use One ID.
Is my biometric data safe?
Your data is stored encrypted, linked to your specific booking, and controlled by you. You can withdraw consent and delete your data at any time through the airline app. IATA's One ID framework requires airlines and airports to comply with local data protection laws (including GDPR in Europe). Your data is not sold or shared with third parties without your consent.
Does One ID work for all nationalities?
Yes — One ID is a passenger experience system, not a visa or entry system. Any nationality that is eligible to fly the route can use One ID. It does not affect your visa requirements or entry eligibility. You still need the correct visa for your destination.
What if the facial recognition fails?
If the system cannot match your face (e.g. due to lighting, changes in appearance, or a technical issue), you are directed to a traditional document check lane. Your trip is not affected — the system is designed with fallback procedures at every touchpoint.
Can I use One ID with a passport that has a visa sticker?
Yes. One ID reads your machine-readable passport data, not the visa sticker. Your visa status is verified separately through the airline's booking system. Having a visa sticker in your passport does not prevent you from using One ID.
